Capture the vibrant colors and shapes of nature through the magical process of eco-printing! Eco-printing is the direct transfer of plant pigments to a surface through the use of heat. We’ll create dynamic designs on cotton bandanas and other fabric using flowers saved from summer’s end and leaves we collect during the colorful fall foliage season. Nature is so abundant!
The class will cover very basic chemistry of plant pigments, preparation and care of naturally dyed fibers and considerations of sustainable art-making. If you have cotton, silk or other clothing you’d like to upcycle, bring it to the first day of class. White or light colored socks or T-shirts work really well. Please wear sturdy shoes for leaf foraging walks.
