Our Commitment

Ruby Hill Farm is committed to ensuring that our website — rubyhillfarm.com — is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology, ability, or circumstance. We believe that every person, including those with disabilities, deserves equal access to information about our farm, our products, our events, and the work of Madi's Way.

We are actively working to improve the accessibility and usability of our website and in doing so adhere to many of the available guidelines and standards. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we view it as an integral part of our values as a community-focused farm and organization.

Conformance Status: Partially Conformant This website is partially conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We are actively working to achieve full conformance and resolve all known gaps.

Standards & Conformance Status

Our goal is to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 Level AA defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines helps make the web more accessible to users who are blind or have low vision, deaf or hard of hearing, have limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity, or learning and cognitive disabilities.

Our accessibility efforts are guided by the following standards and references:

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA — Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (W3C)
  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III — Public Accommodations
  • WAI-ARIA 1.2 — Accessible Rich Internet Applications specification
  • New York State Human Rights Law — which prohibits disability discrimination

Measures We Have Taken

Ruby Hill Farm takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of our website:

  • Included a visible skip navigation link to allow keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation and reach the main content directly.
  • Applied semantic HTML5 elements throughout the site (e.g., <main>, <nav>, <header>, <footer>, <article>, <section>) to convey meaning and structure to assistive technologies.
  • Ensured all meaningful images include descriptive alt text attributes; decorative images use empty alt attributes (alt="") so screen readers ignore them.
  • Used ARIA landmark roles and labels to describe the purpose of page regions where native HTML semantics are insufficient.
  • Designed all interactive elements (links, buttons, form controls) to be fully keyboard accessible without requiring mouse interaction.
  • Maintained a minimum color contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text, in compliance with WCAG 2.1 Success Criteria 1.4.3 and 1.4.11.
  • Ensured the site layout is responsive and reflows on all viewport sizes without loss of content or functionality, supporting users who zoom up to 400%.
  • Provided visible focus indicators on all interactive elements to support keyboard navigation.
  • Implemented a logical reading order and heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) to facilitate navigation by screen reader users.
  • Telephone numbers are formatted as clickable tel: links to support users on mobile devices and those using assistive calling technologies.
  • All form elements include associated, visible labels and appropriate error messaging.
  • Included language declarations (lang="en") on the HTML element to assist screen readers in applying the correct pronunciation rules.
  • Pages include descriptive, unique title elements that reflect the content of each page.
  • Included structured data (Schema.org) markup to assist search engines and assistive technologies in understanding page content and context.
  • Respected the prefers-reduced-motion CSS media query to disable animations and transitions for users who have requested reduced motion in their operating system settings.
  • Implemented high contrast mode support using the forced-colors CSS media query.

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some areas of our website may not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We are aware of the following known limitations and are actively working to address them:

  • Image carousel / slideshow: The image carousel on our homepage may have limited keyboard operability and may not announce slide transitions to screen reader users. We are evaluating a fully accessible carousel implementation.
  • Third-party embedded content: Our embedded Instagram feed (powered by EmbedSocial) and our EventBrite ticketing widget are provided by external vendors. We cannot guarantee full accessibility conformance of these third-party components; however, we encourage users to contact us if they experience barriers.
  • Legacy images: Some older images in our gallery sections may lack sufficiently descriptive alt text. We are conducting a full content audit and updating all image descriptions.
  • PDF documents: Any downloadable documents linked from our site may not be fully accessible. We are committed to providing accessible alternatives upon request.
  • Video content: Any videos embedded on or linked from our website may not include closed captions or audio descriptions. We will add captions and transcripts to video content as resources allow.

We are committed to resolving these limitations. Our accessibility improvements are ongoing and are prioritized by impact on users.

Assistive Technologies Supported

Our website has been designed and tested to support compatibility with the following assistive technologies and browser combinations. We aim to ensure a comparable experience across all of these environments:

  • NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) with Mozilla Firefox on Windows
  • JAWS (Job Access With Speech) with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows
  • VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS (iPhone/iPad)
  • TalkBack with Chrome on Android devices
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking (voice control software) with Chrome on Windows
  • Windows High Contrast Mode with Microsoft Edge
  • Keyboard-only navigation across all modern browsers
  • Browser zoom up to 400% without loss of content or functionality

Third-Party Content

Our website may include content, widgets, and integrations provided by third-party service providers, including but not limited to:

  • EmbedSocial — Instagram feed embedding service
  • EventBrite — Event ticketing and registration platform
  • Google Maps — Mapping and location services
  • Instagram — Social media content embeds

While we make every effort to work with vendors that prioritize accessibility, Ruby Hill Farm does not control or maintain the code of these third-party services and cannot guarantee their accessibility conformance. If you encounter a barrier related to third-party content on our website, please contact us and we will work to provide the information or functionality through an accessible alternative.
